Santiago

Hi everyone! Today I’m going to talk about Santiago. I was born and raised here a few years ago, so I have experienced some of the changes that this city has had. For example the excessive urbanization of some areas such as parks, some squares, and the construction of many many buildings.
But now I’m going to speak about the things that I like about Santiago. I found very interesting its multicultural elements, needless to say, is the cultural capital of the country. So we can find a lot of different people from different parts of the country and the world in the same place and every one of them make the city a little more interesting. Also these multicultural elements make the city a place where you can find many distinct things. This is shown part in its architecture like the diverse type of buildings that we can see over the city. Some of the places that I find nicest are Concha y Toro and Paris-Londres neighborhood.
On the other hand, Santiago can be a very unpleasant place to live mainly because its pollution, in winter is really awful especially in the downtown. Besides, the cranky people make this city an incredibly stressed place to live. Plus to that the transport system is really deficient; a poor frequency of buses and too expensive tickets makes it a terrible terrible system. Add to that, that I live very far from downtown so for me traveling by bus means an hour and a half at least.  
What changes would make the city a better place? I think first of all changing the public transport system, for what I already said. Second, decongest the city to eliminate the pollution and improve the planning of the city.
If I have to give tips to a foreign person about Santiago I would recommend visiting Santa Lucía Hill, Parque Forestal, have a party in Bellavista and eat in La Vega.

Horoscope

I'm thinking me as a rational person. Therefore I don’t believe in metaphysic things or supernatural phenomena.  Even so, I must say that the horoscope coincides with definitions of the personality. For me, this situation is incredible. How is possible? There is a correlation between your dates of bird with your personality? How is possible to know?
Anyway, I’m Dragon, the stronger sign of Chinese horoscope. This sign is symbol of the domination and ambition, and is an autonomous personality. Particularly, I’m dragon of earth. These people take better decisions because are most rational that other signs.
For the other hand, I’m a Libra in the occidental horoscope. This sign is very rational and balanced, have a personality very interesting and attractive. They are big lovers, they loved their partners, friends and their family. But, also they are big enemies. “Better to be his friend than his enemy”. In other terms, this sing is very undecided and insecure, but is a great sign… ja ja ja. Well, this description corresponds with my personality.
So, usually I don’t read the horoscope. I don’t use the horoscope as a guide for my life. I don’t believe much in the predictions of the horoscope. In this world many charlatans exist… ja ja ja. I believe that the people create their future, and nobody can predict the future. Anyway, when I read the horoscope is when I'm bored or in the bus or in the bathroom … etc.

The education secretary of England says about whom reject of education reforms are "ideologues happy with failure". However, the reforms continue despite of the critics about the package of policies. He said in a discourse: "Change is coming. And to those who want to get in the way, I have just two words: hands off". He was frustrated by obstructive attitude from a change in the schools.

Gove he said "In one of the most disadvantaged parts of our capital city poor children have been deprived of the skills they need to succeed."

For him, his enemies are ideologues because “the ones who put doctrine ahead of pupils’ interests.”  They are considerer most important protect old forms of working ahead helping to poor pupils.  Therefore, they are enemies of the improve system of education and England to do “liberate the next generation from a history of failure.”

In my opinion, this situation is similar to that experienced in Chile. In the conflict for education, government and technocrats promote to reform and package of policies to improve education. But, the person who rejects these reforms is called as “Ideologues” by them. I think that the powerful always protect their interests. Therefore when anybody critiqued their interests, they attack this people used word as “Ideologues”, “Irrational”, “Resentful”, and so on. So, the powerful delegitimize to opposition about civil society.

Greatest chilean of all time!!

Who is the greatest chilean of all times? I Think It’ is a very difficult question because there is many great chilean people. For example, in sports we have Marcelo Ríos, Ivan Zamorano, and Alexis Sanchez. In literature we have Pablo Neruda, Gabriela Mistral and Nicanor Parra… and so on. It all depends on the point of view. In this case, my perspective is political.

From this point of view my greatest Chilean of all times is Luis Emilio Recabarren. He is a great politician of the history of Chile and he was founder of the Chilean communist party. He was born on 1876 in Valparaiso, and he died on 1924 in Santiago. He was a typographical worker in his young, work which helped him to create some newspaper and bulletin. Between his contributions we have “El Trabajo”, “La Vanguardia” and “El Despertar de los Trabajadores”. In These publications he promoted solidarity on the worker class.

On the other hand, Recabarren also created several political organizations to "reinforce the worker movement”, among most important it is Socialist Worker Party in 1912 which then became into the Chilean communist party in 1922, and so his participation in creation of the Argentinean communist party in 1918.

So, Luis Emilio Recabarren is the greatest Chilean of all times for me because He is a person with principles, coherent and committed with his ideas. He had many problems because his political ideology. Thus, even he was prisoner in the jail many times he continued with his work with the same determination.

Protect to Environment

I believe that care about the planet is very important because it is the place we live and we grow up. Neglect the environment, mess up the place we live or full it whit garbage is acting irresponsible and suffer of a short-term view of the mankind and nature.

Many people believe that we must to take advantage and produce as much as possible to achieve a society without lacks. Anyway, lacks does not exist because the mankind produce few things, but few people appropriate a lot. If the economic resources were distributed in a better way, then would be a society without lacks. But, as our society is not seeking satisfy needs or lacks but to create more needs to increase the consume, more products are needed. This means that the mankind produce more than necessary and without thinking about the future, but only achieve earnings in the present time.

Even I believe that is necessary to save the planet I don’t have many things about it. For example, I have never participated in an ecological organization or not to go to protests (even I went to one or two). I give my grain trying not to contaminate my life, picking up garbage in the places I have been or I use to be and trying re-utilizing some materials.

About the politic particularly in Chile, although the government says that environment is an important preoccupation for them. But in fact, the Chilean government approved to many projects that to cause much damage and destruction for environment. For example, the cases of Pascua Lama, Punta de Choros, HidroAysen, among others.

Finally, I think that more political forces are needed to solve the problem of pollution, because we trust win against those who do not want to change the actual contexts. We must change our practices so in that way we can create a great political movement that can achieve the establishment of laws to protect our future.

My Christmas

Christmas this year was good. In the past years, I do not enjoy this celebrations. But, in 2011 I enjoyed the company of my family. I spend christmas eve in my home, here in santiago, with my mother, father, brother and grandmother. I always spend christmas eve with my family, every year. And this year wasn’t the exception.

For dinner, we ate steak with duquesas potatoes and differents types of salads. And to drink, we had sodas, wine and “cola de mono”… mmm I love “cola de mono” . And all this with “pan de pascua” it’s a great combination.

After dinner, we opened the gifts. My mother was the person with more gifts in my home. And my grandmother too. Is destiny of the mothers, recibed very much gifts of their children. By the way, the most frequent present i got this year, was clothes.

The next day, in sunday, I visited the rest os my family. In the afternoon, we had lunch in my grand mother’s house, with my father’s family. After that I wentswimming at my other grandmother's house, and was very cool.

Well, despite I don’t believe this celebration because I'm agnostic. I enjoy sharing with my family.

BBC LearningEnglish

Today, I will write about a website very cool for learning english. That page is BBC, in specific his section “LearningEnglish” (Here his adress: http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/). In first place, the page have a simple interface, therefore is easy to use.

In second place, in the BBC website you find very much exercise for  learning english, through the use of multimedia resources. For example, news videos, news audios, articles, games, and etc.

In third place, the use of the news for learning englis is very cool, because it allows interactions with elements and words of the everyday life. Therefore, is most easy learning the vocabulary, pronunciation, and understanding. 

In my first visit to this website I saw the section “Words in the news”, here you can watch and listen news reports and learning vocabulary and his signification through exercises. In particular, I watch this next reports: “Thriller in Manila”, “scientists find 208 new species”, “Hawaii’s Volcano could turn violent” and “Superman comic’s record price”.

In conclution, the BBC Website is a very cool page for learning english because permited also inform about the news of the world.
